The AIUM Announces New Class of Fellows

Mar 25, 2025

LAUREL, MD - The Board of Governors of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) along with the AIUM Executive Committee, is proud to announce the newest class of AIUM Fellows.

“Each year, the AIUM has the privilege of recognizing individuals who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the organization and the field of medical ultrasound,” said Dr. Richard Hoppmann, FACP, FAIUM, President of the AIUM. “This year's class of five AIUM Fellows, selected by their peers from amongst the over 7,000 AIUM members showcases the board impact, dedication, and innovation within our community."

The individuals achieving this designation have demonstrated their commitment to both the AIUM and medical ultrasound. Individuals must be nominated, meet eligibility criteria, complete a detailed application, and secure letters of support. These materials are then reviewed and scored by the AIUM Executive Committee. Successful applications are forwarded to the AIUM Board of Governors for final approval.

This new class of AIUM Fellows includes researchers, physicians, and educators from around the world and from the full spectrum of ultrasound specialties for their knowledge and skill as writers, speakers, reviewers, and/or leaders. They join a small and select group that encompasses the AIUM Fellows. In fact, less than 4% of AIUM members are Fellows, who are able to add FAIUM to their list of credentials.

The members of the new class of AIUM Fellows are:

  • Keith R. Barron, Jr., MD

  • Claudia Patricia Gonzalez, MD, PhD

  • Reinhard Kubale, MD

  • Ann Marie Kupinski, PhD, RVT, RDMS, FSVU

  • Kibo Nam, PhD

“The AIUM is honored to welcome these distinguished individuals as Fellows. Their contributions to research, education, and clinical excellence will help shape the future of ultrasound and strengthen our mission to advance safe and effective ultrasound practice worldwide,” added Hoppmann.
