How to Volunteer with AIUM

The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) is only able to empower and cultivate a global multidisciplinary community engaged in the use of medical ultrasound with the help of individuals like you, who are willing to volunteer to help us further our mission. Whether you want to be a speaker, a writer, or something else, here are 5 ways to contribute.

5 Ways to Get Involved With the AIUM

Submit a blog post

Submit a blog post to The Scan.  Posts should be 500–700 words and can be on any nonpromotional topic on or related to ultrasound.

Submit an article

Submit an article to our peer-reviewed journal, the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, which is dedicated to the rapid, accurate publication of original articles dealing with all aspects of medical ultrasound, particularly its direct application to patient care but also relevant basic science, advances in instrumentation, and biological effects.

Submit a Case Challenge

Submit a Case Challenge to test AIUM members. A case includes up to 3 images or videos and a short description and any background information that might help members determine a diagnosis.

Run in an AIUM Election

In October of any given year, apply to run in the AIUM election to serve as a leader of an AIUM Community. The community leadership team develops content for the AIUM Annual Meeting; proposes session topics; identifies potential speakers and moderators for invited and abstract-based sessions; and assigns abstract submission categories and reviewers. The community leadership team also engages and supports AIUM members on Connect; acts as/appoints subject matter experts for AIUM committee and task force activities; identifies webinar topics and speakers; submits/recommends case challenges; and provides/recommends blog posts.

Write CMEs

Write continuing medical education (CME) tests based on articles from the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine. The tests are composed of 10 true or false questions. Contact me, Stefan Lefebvre at slefebvre@aium.org if you are interested in this opportunity.

The strength of the AIUM lies in the dedication and expertise of its members and volunteers. Whether you’re contributing as a writer, speaker, or leader, your efforts not only support our mission but also shape the future of medical ultrasound. Together, we can create a vibrant, collaborative community that advances the field and improves patient care worldwide. Are you ready to make a difference? Join us today and help drive the future of ultrasound forward.
