Becoming accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) is like having an extra member on your team to help you make improvements and ensure the highest quality patient care.
The AIUM accreditation process helps your team provide high-quality scans, standardize your reporting, and make continuous improvements to your ultrasound practice.

Review the Accreditation Agreement.
In order to apply for practice accreditation, your practice must be following the Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Ultrasound Practices. Once you are ready to apply or reapply, log in to your AIUM user account to create the application. If you do not have an AIUM user account (member or nonmember), you must create one.
First-time applicants review these steps to start an application.
For Reaccreditation applications review these steps to access your application.
The AIUM ultrasound practice accreditation review process begins once you have submitted the online application, payment, and the signed accreditation agreement, your case studies, and supporting documents.
What happens next?
The AIUM will also sign the accreditation agreement, and one copy will be sent back to the practice for your HIPAA records.
The cases will be evaluated and scored by two reviewers, and, if their scores don't agree, by a third reviewer as well.
AIUM Accreditation Department staff review the online portion of the application and the supporting documentation.
When the cases and documentation have been reviewed, the results will be summarized in a findings letter, which will include a detailed report on the case study submissions and identify any areas that need clarification or modification.
The practice will be given the opportunity to provide clarification, make corrections, and, if necessary, submit new case studies within 30 days from the date of the findings letter.
The Ultrasound Practice Accreditation Council will decide whether to grant accreditation based on your application and your response to the findings letter.
Practices that are awarded accreditation will be notified via email and will receive a certificate.
