In the late 1990s, the AIUM recognized the need for funding to advance education and establish research opportunities in medical ultrasound, and thus the Endowment for Education and Research (EER) was born. Over the years, monies have been generously donated by AIUM members who have included a contribution when paying their annual dues or who have provided an extra gift in honor or memory of an ultrasound professional they admire; by vendors and organizations—including Philips Healthcare, Samsung Medison America, GE Healthcare, and the ARDMS Breast Ultrasound Foundation—which have graciously provided unrestricted educational grants; by the AIUM leadership—including officers, committee chairs, fellows, and others—who since 2002 have challenged themselves to personally support the EER; and by the AIUM itself, which has continually provided monetary support to the EER since its creation.
Since 2001, the EER has been funding research projects and educational endeavors to promote the development of new technologies and applications in medical ultrasound and to encourage excellence in ultrasound education.
